Monero (XMR) Range Puzzle

Monero uses the Ed25519 curve (CryptoNote), not secp256k1. Each private spend key deterministically produces a private view key — the Keccak-256 hash of the spend key, reduced modulo the group order — and the two public keys are packed into a 95-character standard address that begins with 4.

Monero balances are private by design: an address reveals nothing on-chain. To see what an address received you need its private view key (shown in the balance column here), imported into a Monero wallet or a light-wallet server — which is why no public API can report a Monero address balance.
